Stevan Bernard Steen

ST. ALBANS: Stevan Bernard Steen passed away in his home on April 27, 2024, after a long illness.

Stevan was born in Detroit, Michigan to Bernard and Mary Steen. The family moved to St. Albans when Steve was four years old and he attended St. Mary’s primary school and graduated from BFA in 1972.

From there, Steve led an adventurous life, he built an off-grid home on a cliff in the hills of Jeffersonville. He sailed several times from Lake Champlain to Maryland, Florida, and the Bahamas, eventually landing in South Carolina. He was a master mason by trade but was also an avid woodworker and cabinet maker as well as a general contractor. In his later years, he was a certified boat captain for sightseeing tours on the Waccamaw River outside of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Kavanaugh of Eureka, California, brother, Burton Steen and partner, Jeanne Howrigan of St. Albans, niece, Laura Hancock and husband, Jon, of Richford, and several other nieces and nephews.

Steve was predeceased by his mother and father, his sister, Joan Gaudreau and husband, Irving, of West Covina, California, brother-in-law, Winston Kavanaugh of Eureka, California, and nephew, Robert Gaudreau of West Covina, California.

Services will be private and at the convenience of Stevan’s family.
