COLCHESTER BUILDER DEFRAUDED ST. ALBANS CUSTOMER
UPDATE: This news story refers to charges that were later dismissed, however since those charges were dropped, Sears has been charged with other instances of Home Improvement Fraud. In 2018 Sears moved himself and his business to Panama City Beach Florida to escape the charges in Vermont. He is currently wanted in Vermont on a felony county of Home Improvement Fraud as well as several civil cases related to his busness workings with citizens in the Green Mountain State. During the course of Sears’ business in Vermont, he was investigated several times by the Vermont Attorney Generals’ Office. ST. ALBANS, VT: St. Albans Police have cited Michael Sears, 51, of Colchester, with home improvement fraud in a case that happened in St. Albans City.
According to Chief Taylor, a St. Albans customer contacted Sears’ company, Green Mountain Basement Solutions LLC to work on their property.
The homeowner paid a $750 deposit to have home improvement done and outdoor home security cameras installed, but when a worker showed up a month later to do the job, the worker left without even starting, according to police.
“The victim stated that over the past several months she has attempted to contact Sears in several different ways. Sears has contacted her once and refused to give a refund.” Chief Taylor said.
Sears has been cited into court, charged with Home Improvement Fraud. He is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on December 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
Home Improvement Fraud in Vermont carries a sentence of up to two years in prison and up to $1,000 in fines.
