EAST FAIRFIELD VILLAGE PLAYGROUND PROJECT NEARING COMPLETION

It really does take a village, in this case East Fairfield, where work is nearing completion on an extensive upgrade to the playground adjacent to the Fairfield Community Center.

The original equipment is over 20 years old and planned improvements will provide additional resources to keep older kids interested and active.

Improvements thus far include the installation of 9-12 inches of wood chips under all existing equipment to provide a soft surface upon which kids can play; a 12-foot duck walk bridge; an inclined spider; a free-standing maypole; and a Groove slide. A new swing set will soon be installed as well.

The existing sandbox has also been refurbished, complete with new cars, trucks and diggers.

The playground equipment will be purchased from Pettinelli & Associates, who have assisted with several other playground upgrades in the county.

Julie Wolcott, chair of the Fairfield Community Center board of directors, notes that none of the work thus far would have been possible without the generous support of the Garibay Family and Med Associates Inc. as well as  the following generous donors to date: Grady’s Golden Goodness, Peoples Trust Company, Kim and Carl Stone, The Rolla-Foley Family, Gallagher Flynn and Company, Vermont Green Mountain Tours, Branon Family Maple Orchards, Dickinson & Branon Dental Care, Fairfield Market, Teapot Homes, local fundraising efforts, the Community Center Board, and many community volunteers.

“We are so grateful to Bridget and Valdemar Garibay and Med Associates,” Wolcott said. “They have been the workhorses doing the heavy and steady pulling to make the Village Playground at the Fairfield Community Center fun and safe. We couldn’t have made the improvements without their partnership and support.”

Projected costs for the upgrade are approximately $15,000, a third of which has been raised thus far.

Wolcott said the Center continues to solicit donations to see the project through to completion.

“The playground is a resource for all of us,” she said. “It’s a resource for the whole town, used by youngest town residents, our youth programs at the Center, siblings and friends of ball players, and for special events. These upgrades are both welcome and very much needed, as are the funds to complete this project.”

Those wishing to donate to the Village Playground Project can do so on the Fairfield Community Center website at www.fairfieldcommunitycenter.org, via the donate option on their Facebook page, or by mail to PO Box 16, East Fairfield, VT 05448.  Checks should be made payable to:  FCCA, Memo: 2020 Village Playground Project.
