FIRE STOPPED AT HIGHGATE HOME
The Swanton and Highgate Fire Departments rushed to a home on Jedware Circle in Highgate on Monday morning after reports of a house fire were called into 911 at around 10:55.
According to Trooper Matthew Hill of the Vermont State Police, firefighters arrived to find a fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire had been partially extinguished by the homeowner, likely preventing more extensive damage to the structure.
Although the precise cause of the fire had not been determined, investigators believe the fire began on the bed, according to Hill.
The home, owned by Norman Loiselle, 66, sustained about $30,000 in damage but is not considered to be a total loss. The grand list values the structure at about $189,000.
Both Loiselle and his son were at home at the time of the fire, police said.
Swanton Fire Department and Highgate Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the remains of the fire, while responders from St. Albans Town were put on standby to cover Swanton and Highgate during the fire.
