STATE SUSPENDS LICENSE FOR LNA WHO STOLE CREDIT CARD FROM PATIENT
The Office of Professional Regulation, part of the Secretary of State’s Office, has suspended the nursing assistant license of Shawnee Lissenden, 28, of St. Albans.
Lissenden was arrested by members of the Swanton Police Department in September after an investigation determined that she used her client’s credit card at least 23 times for her own financial gain.
She is facing criminal charges for grand larceny, fraudulent use of a credit card, financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, attempted petit larceny, and identity theft.
According to court records, Lissenden stole at least $1,005.56 worth of cash and purchases on the credit cards between June 19th and August 24th of 2020. Those transactions took place at the Hannaford Supermarket, in Swanton, without the knowledge or consent of the victim, according to police.
Public documents obtained by the County Courier, indicate that there were 14 transactions in question, ranging in price from $40.99 to $65.99. Police say there were an additional eight charges to the card totaling the remaining $350.
She had been employed by Bayada Home Health Care, a home health care provider based in Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to the transactions at the Hannaford Supermarket, Lissenden attempted a purchase from an online retailer for a $350 cellphone, according to public records. That transaction was declined.
In court filings, Lissenden admitted that she was addicted to heroin. In the state’s filing for the suspension of her license, prosecutor Benjamin Novogroski wrote that there was evidence that Lissenden was “snorting” before she entered the patient’s home for her shift.
She was arraigned on the charges in November, where she entered a not guilty plea, according to court records.
Lissenden did not appear for her hearing in Montpelier recently for the suspension of her license, according to public documents.
Lissenden could get her nursing assistant license reinstated through an appeals process, but with criminal charges still pending it is unlikely to happen.
