Marie Odile Nicole Gervais

SWANTON, VT – Nicole was born on September 19th, 1943 in Montreal, Quebec, and peacefully passed surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home on Sunday, February 27th, 2022. She was 78 years old.

Nicole was raised by her adoptive parents, the late Adrien and Alberta (Langevin) Gravel, in Magog, Canada. She earned her Registered Nurse degree in Montreal, Quebec at the St. Justin Hospital Pour Enfants. It was during this time of her life when she met her husband, Gregg, despite a language barrier and long distance. They eventually moved to Whitman then East Bridgewater, Massachusetts after their marriage in 1965. Nicole and Gregg had two daughters, Lynne and Denise. Nicole went on to run the Brain Injury Unit in Hanson, Massachusetts for 10 years. In 1996, Gregg and Nicole followed their daughter Lynne to Vermont after their retirement, to be closer to her family and children. Nicole worked at several local nursing homes and retired from Mousetrap Pediatrics. 

Nicole first became involved with the Senior Center while delivering Meals on Wheels with a good friend, Pauline Brady, and continued to volunteer and participate for over 20 years. She was a longtime member of the Red Hats Society of St. Albans and was a board member at the Franklin County Senior Center where she called many members close friends. Nicole loved tending her flower gardens and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was happiest when helping people and was a bubbly, vivacious, hard worker, and a great friend, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Nicole leaves behind her husband, Gregg Gervais, her beloved daughters, Denise Kamataris and Lynne Gervais, her grandchildren, Anthony and Eric Bessette, Heather, Shaun and Shannon Kamataris, Emma-Rose, Carl and Rowan Royea, and her great grandchildren, James and Mason Bessette. 

She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Gravel, this past year, and her parents. 

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Swanton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Franklin County Senior Center, 75 Messenger Street, St. Albans VT, 05478 OR the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton OR the Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans VT, 05478.
