Betty Jean Garceau
FAIRFIELD: Betty Jean Garceau, beloved wife, mother, and Nana passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023, with her family by her side.
Born in St. Albans, Vermont on March 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marjorie (Ploof) Richards. Betty was 78 years old.
On August 19, 1961, Betty married Rene (Chiecoq) Garceau who preceded her on April 10, 2022. She was a long time resident of Fairfield. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish, and also a member of the “Rubies in the Rough” Red Hat Society.
Betty attended St. Mary’s High School in St. Albans, VT. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when you needed her. She also had many friends and was a well loved member of the community. Betty was employed at Peoples Trust Company, for over 30 years following in her parents’ footsteps, cleaning and maintaining the facilities until she retired in 2003.
The family was the focus of Betty’s life. She enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved attending their events. Betty was the happiest when all her family was around, especially during the Christmas season. When Betty wasn’t with family you could find her deep in the soil of her flower gardens or resting watching her birds. She also enjoyed visits and conversations with her lifelong best friend Candy Bilodeau.
Survivors include her canine companion Sugar, daughter Renee Andrews of East Fairfield, sons Russell (Suzette) Garceau of Bulverde, TX, Steven (Kara) Garceau of Fairfield, Shane (Jen) Garceau of Fairfield, and Derrick (Keeli) Garceau of St. Albans. She leaves her cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Whitney, Jordan (Amanda), Chelsea, Garrett, Ashley (Andrew), Lauren-Kate “Bibit”, Jade, Jyllian, Myah, Vivien, Victoria, and Vera; 12 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Brayden, Landon, Bailey, Lily, Jordan, Rylee, Gabe, Roslyn, Ellie, Dylan, and Farrah.
Betty is also survived by her sisters, Nancy O’Leary, and Sally (Don) Myers; sisters-in-law Judy Richard, and Lou Ann Reed, brothers-in-law Roland Garceau, and Greg (Julie) Garceau, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her brother Robert Richard, sisters-in-law Pauline and husband Ralph Austin, Judy Garceau, brothers-in-law Frank O’Leary, Henry and wife Marlene Garceau, Roger Reed, and son-in-law Mike Andrews.
