Chester Bernard Devarney
GEORGIA: Chester Bernard Devarney a longtime area resident passed away Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his family at his side.
Born at home in St. Albans on August 14th, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond and Anita (Brault) Devarney. Chester was 86 years old.
In Ardmore, Oklahoma on September 16th, 1955, Chester married Nettie “Joyce” Scallorn, who predeceased him on September 1st, 2014.
Chester was educated in St. Albans and then in 1956, he entered the United States Air Force. He received his honorable discharge in 1962 and went on to serve in the Vermont Air National Guard receiving his honorable discharge in 1985 with the rank of Tech Sergeant.
Chester was very involved in the Georgia community as a volunteer with Georgia Volunteer Fire Department and coached Little League. He was well known in the racing circuit as crew chief for the “Devarney Racing Team” and also for his son Chet “Gerber Baby” race team. He always enjoyed his outings to the various casinos and many folks benefited from his vegetable garden, which he so enjoyed.
Survivors include his children, Kathy and Roy Ferland and family, Nancy Devarney and family, Diane and Steven Tuttle and family, and Chet and Skye Devarney and family. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest and Peggy Devarney and family, sister, Carol and Bob Maloney and family; and his close friends, Walt and Kay Krul, Roger Gutkotf, and the Stuart family.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joyce, Chester was predeceased by a daughter, Sharron Derosia.
