Fernande Benoit

ENOSBURG FALLS: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fernande Benoit, age 94, who passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born on August 25, 1928, in Chicopee, MA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elianne (Desrosiers) Lataille.

Fernande married the love of her life, Ernest Benoit on October 6, 1951, and moved to Enosburg Falls, VT. They celebrated 58 years of marriage together. Fernande and her husband loved traveling in their RV while visiting many places including Maine and Florida. They often took their grandchildren with them. She also looked forward to entertaining, especially during the holidays, always preparing lots of food for family and friends— she was happiest when her home was filled with laughter, family, and good food. Fernande was a devout Catholic and member of St. John the Baptist Church in Enosburg Falls.

Fernande’s family was always her top priority and she dedicated her life to them. She was passionate and meticulous about caring for her home, her flower gardens, and cutting her grass which she continued to do until the age of 92. She also enjoyed spending time with her little dog, Annabelle.

She was a loving, compassionate, and caring woman who was always willing to help those in need.  Fernande was proud of her independence and her ability to not only care for herself but others around her. She experienced a great deal of courage and strength, especially in the last years of her life.

She is survived by her two children, Michael Benoit of Sheldon, and Carole Benoit of Swanton; her grandson, Jason Doe and his wife Keely of Berkshire; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jacques and Claude, who reside in Canada; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Fernande was predeceased by her granddaughter Kristen Doe and five siblings, Jeannine, Claudette, Therese, Jean, and Frederick.

In keeping with Fernande’s wishes, services will be held privately.

For those who wish contributions in Fernande’s memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health- Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle # 1, St. Albans City, VT 05478.
