MONTGOMERY NEWS, week of FEBRUARY 25, 2024
by Lois Lumbra
It’s Sunday. I attended Church and now Penny has gone for a walk with her son, David, and his beloved dog Bella. They enjoy playing with her in the open fields up beyond the Post Office however, they cut their playtime shorter than usual today as it’s so cold, especially with that north wind.
John Gorton led our church service today and his sermon was “The Promise.” Since Lyndon and Lila Elkins will be celebrating their 59th Wedding Anniversary this week, we all sang Happy Anniversary to them. Cordy von Conta will celebrate her birthday on Thursday, the 29th, so we sang Happy Birthday to her. We hope you have a wonderful day filled with lots of love from all your family and friends, Happy Birthday Cordy!
2/23: Veronica de Saint Phalle and her friend Barbara Burns met at Bernie’s Restaurant to celebrate Barbara’s birthday. They had a wonderful luncheon before parting ways. Veronica and I visited before she went to lunch, she showed me how to play cribbage. I had beginner’s luck and was the winner. It takes some getting used to, but I liked it. Later Veronica emailed the game rules, hopefully, Penny and Merle will play later.
2/24: My lazy Saturday afternoon with Penny turned into a wonderful afternoon sharing memories with my nephew, Steve Courville, and his friend Sue Allen. We opened so many memories of our years of togetherness at the Courville’s camp at the Lake. Steve and his brother, Marc, lost their father, Raymond, last January 23, 2023, and this year they lost their mother, Betty Lumbra Courville, on February 17.
Gila Domina had her long-time friend, David McCormack, from Maine visit. He had recently purchased her car.
Happy Birthday wishes to Cordy von Conta 2/29, Elyssa Fletcher 3/3, Robin Houle, Hudson Baker 3/4, Sandy Bowman 3/5, Prudy Ryea 3/5, and Isaiah Snider, CJ Caforia 3/8. 3/4
Anniversary wishes to Tony & Jody Jones on 3/5.
Thoughts for the end of the month of February:
It’s time to say goodbye to February and welcome March 2024.
Our time changes, Spring ahead, to have daylight one hour more.
So this week we have one day more, it’s a leap year. Did you know?
It’s been a weird year with a lot less snow.
It has been a year for sap to flow almost every month or so,
It’s just keeping the sugarmakers wondering which way to go.
The schools are on a few days vacation right now,
Soon, it will be mud season, and no need for a snow plow.
It’s time throughout the state for Town Meeting Day,
Giving the Community a voice of Why, How, or What to say.
Soon there will be March Madness Basketball games to play
Upsetting the weekday soap opera viewers.
Whatever it is, March will soon leave us all and April will arrive.
It will bring Spring flowers and green leaves out on our trees.
Lots of allergies for some to make you wheeze and sneeze.
Every year we do the same things over and over, it seems,
Plant our gardens, mow the grass, and walk out in our comfortable jeans.
I’m lost for words right here, so will close with M.L.T.A.
Have a wonderful YEAR!! LL 2024
Chuckles of the week:
• What do you say on the last day of the second month? A: February is ending today, but that’s ok, we’ll March on.
• Q: What kind of a bow can’t be tied in March? Q: A Rainbow.
• Q: Sometimes February feels like it will last forever, however time marches on! (It sure does!)
