MINNESOTA MAN LEAD POLICE ON CHASE THROUGH FOUR VT TOWNS
Glen Abbott, 25, of Backus, Minnesota is in custody after allegedly leading police through Berkshire, Enosburgh, Sheldon and Swanton before crashing his car late Sunday evening.
According to Deputy Chad Miles, the man failed to stop for Border Patrol in Berkshire, Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit in Sheldon. The man allegedly continued speeding down rain soaked roads at 55-65 miles per hour until State Police deployed a spike strip in the Swanton Area, near the Russell Road.
“The vehicle was weaving from side to side while still failing to yield for blue lights and siren.” Miles said in a press release Monday morning.
Abbott’s vehicle went off the road at the curve near the Russell Road, where it clipped a utility pole, knocking down live wires.
In a press release, officers said they freed Abbott from the vehicle.
Swanton Police, Vermont State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Border Patrol were all involved in pursuit, Miles said.
Abbott is being held at the Northwest State Correctional Center, pending arraignment on charges including DUI, Attempting to Elude, and Grossly Negligent operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The Swanton Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 11:44 PM to control traffic and assist with the live wires.
