Montgomery news, week of April 15, 2024

by Lois Lumbra

4/14:It’s Sunday, and our Church Service was led by John Gorton bringing us a wonderful message entitled “We Are Now God’s Children.” John mentioned the beautiful bright sunshine shining in through the stained glass windows. While waiting for Patrick and John to arrive, I found a hymn that I thought would be nice for Mother’s Day and Patrick played it for us. We plan to use it on Mother’s Day, May 12.

Kathy and Howard King helped her brother, Gerald, and his wife, Cheryl Jewett, celebrate their 55th Wedding Anniversary on April 7th and also Gerald’s 80th Birthday which is April 18th. It was a nice get-together.

Continuation of the Solar Eclipse last week. As you all know I did not send out my 4/7/24 news until the following day, I waited until after the Eclipse. I have talked with several people this week regarding this spectacular event, everyone was excited about how well they could see it as it was happening. Awesome, spiritual, and spectacular were just a few descriptive words used. Then on the local news, there were many weddings taking place. The pictures that were taken by my son-in-law and daughter were things I missed, as I came in to do the News once the street lights were back on. The pic they sent me of the diamond ring was breath taking it was so beautiful. Penny watched it all from the very beginning to its ending. She said, “…something I will never forget, it was so exciting and historical.”

4/9: The 500 Card Club met at Sue Wilson’s home with Nancy Martinson as the April Hostess. It was a warm sunny afternoon and everyone was enjoying their special time to chat and catch up on what’s going on with each other. When it was time to add up their scores, Sue Peters had a high score with 3100; second high was Anita Woodward’s 2930; low was Debbie Chauvin’s 1430; most horses went to Therese Begnoche with 2. Subs were Brent Godin playing for Marge Cummings and Stacey Gregoire for Sue Cherrier. Sue Peters will plan to have the May gathering at her home on May 14th.

Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Dale (Puffer) Lumbra.

Happy Birthday to Karen Soule 4/21; Amy Hurlbut 4/22; Beth Crane, Tara Ryan 4/23;  Mike Sheltra 4/24; Susan Auclair 4/25; Howard King, Brent Godin 4/26; Delaney Smith, Kira Guild 4/27.

Chuckle of the week:

Q: Why shouldn’t you tell ducks jokes on the first of April?

A: They’ll quack up.

Q: What kind of shoes does a frog wear when Spring arrives? A: Opened toad.

Q: What kind of pickle do Spring flowers like?

A: Daffo-dills.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and I leave with M.L.T.A. God Bless us all!!
