ENOSBURGH MAN HELD ON BURGLARY/SIMPLE ASSAULT CHARGE

ENOSBURGH: What started out as a pair of slashed tires, ended with an Enosburgh man behind bars.

According to court files, an acquaintance of Emily Bockus, the estranged wife of Riley Bockus, found two of their tires slashed while attending an event in Enosburgh on Friday evening.

The owner of the vehicle thought it was the work of Riley Bockus, because his estranged wife, Emily, who was attending the same event with them, court files show.

Later that evening, Riley Bockus’ father, Tim, showed up at the home of the vehicle owner to make amends, offering to pay for the tires if no charges were pressed, according to a sworn statement. Minutes later, Riley Bockus entered their home with a baseball bat, attempting to injure the residents there.

An altercation ensued, and Riley Bockus was disarmed, according to multiple accounts.

Police investigating the incident later interviewed Riley Bockus about the incident.

When police asked Bockus what his intentions were when he entered the home, he answered “I don’t know,” according to a police affidavit in the case.

Bockus is being held on $10,000 bail, as of press time on Wednesday.

Bockus was charged with burglary into an occupied dwelling and three counts of simple assault, totaling up to 28 years and $4,000 in fines.

Bockus is also facing a Lewd and Lascivious Conduct charge and a Careless and Negligent Operation charge stemming from an alleged incident in the fall. Those charges are still pending.

According to court files, Bockus’ only conviction came from a felony charge of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct in 2011.
