Dr. Marc Kutler, of NMC’s ED recieves the first of two required doses of the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday morning.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR THE COVID VACCINE

The Vermont Department of Health is beginning to make vaccine appointments for those over the age of 75. If you haven’t made an appointment, this is where you can go to get your name on the list.

The Health Department’s web site opened this morning. Vaccines will begin being deployed on Wednesday, and it is expected to take about five weeks to get those in the 75+ age group vaccinated.

The state is running 59 vaccine facilities in 34 municipalities.

What will I be asked for when I make an appointment?

You’ll be asked to give:

  • name
  • date of birth
  • address
  • email address, if you have one
  • phone number
  • primary insurance information

Insurance is not required, and there is no cost for getting the vaccine.

You will also be asked some medical questions about whether you:

  • have any history of allergic reaction to vaccines or injectable therapies
  • are currently sick with COVID-19
  • have recently had any other vaccines
  • have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners
  • are pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or lactating

Beginning on January 25, people who are 75 years and older and live, work, or access primary care in Vermont are eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

State Health Officials say you should talk with your health care provider if you’ve had an immediate allergic reaction to any other vaccine, injectable therapy, or polysorbate, or if you have questions about whether getting the vaccine is right for you because of health conditions, allergies, or other vaccines you’ve received recently.

You may not be protected from COVID-19 for a few weeks after your second shot. Experts still need to understand more about how COVID-19 vaccines keep us safe from this coronavirus, before changing prevention recommendations. That’s why it’s important to continue taking steps to prevent COVID-19 and to follow the state guidelines for travel and quarantine.

You won’t be able to make an appointment for your second dose until you get your first dose. Before you leave your first dose appointment, clinic staff will help you make an appointment to get the second dose. With the vaccines that are currently available, two doses are required to be fully protected against COVID-19. Both of the vaccines available are over 94% effective with two doses.
