Shirley Demar

ST. ALBANS: Shirley Demar, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2021. 

She was born in Dunham, Quebec on March 25, 1939 to Donald and Mary (Tipney) Bates.  Shirley married Louis Demar Jr. on June 1, 1957.  Mr. Demar preceded her in death January 8, 1995.

Shirley was employed at Hotel Kelly and the Cornerstone for a few years. She also worked at Fonda Container, retiring after 20 years. Shirley loved to do puzzles of any kind, painting wooden crafts, gardening, and crocheting.  She loved her canine companion Lilly.

She is survived by five children, Marie Chagnon (David) of Milton, Emma Wagner (Donald Sweet) of St. Albans, Bonnie Messier (Michael) of Franklin, Don Demar (Lisa) of Fairfax, and Debbie Bovat (Chris Comstock) of Sheldon; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Paul of Adams, MA and Claire Poirier of Swanton.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley is predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Long.

A Time of Reflection will be held Monday, January 3, 2021, from 5 – 7 pm, at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in the spring.  

As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478.
