Ardelle Tiffany Rich

ST. ALBANS, VT: Ardelle Tiffany Rich, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Homestead Senior Living in St Albans.

Born at home in Fairfield, Vermont on October 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Silas Morris and Mary (Leach) Tiffany. Ardelle was 98 years old.

On June 28th, 1947, Ardelle married Vernon P. Rich who predeceased her on January 18, 1995.

Her education began in a local one-room schoolhouse. Following 8th grade, she attended Enosburg Falls High School graduating in 1943 and then attended the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1947 and becoming a registered nurse.

Ardelle and Vern were instrumental in bringing the Holiday House, Verdelle Village, and Redstone Villa nursing homes, Franklin Rental, and several other businesses to the St. Albans area. Ardelle was a 70+ year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she was a former Trustee and a member of the Outreach Circle. She was also a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Recollections of her childhood include helping her mother, learning to cook at an early age, and taking care of her three younger sisters and her brother.

Ardelle is survived by her son, Craig (Brenda) Rich of St. Albans; daughter, Peggy (Mark Biercevicz) Rich of Georgia; grandchildren, Lori Verville (Donald) Turner of Colchester, and Brian Robert Verville of Colchester; great-grandson, Silas Verville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ardelle was predeceased by her brother, S. Morris (Cora) Tiffany, and three sisters, Martha (John “Jack”) Clifford, Pauline (Daniel “Danny”) Cunningham, and Helen (Lucius) Hibbard.

Ardelle’s family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4- 6 pm at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main Street, St. Albans. A private interment will take place at a later date in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

It was Ardelle’s wish that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478 or Daughters of the American Revolution, 1776 D Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-5303.
